How to think fast in each EPSO test: what to read first, and when to move on

EPSO reasoning tests give you roughly 90 seconds per question. At that speed, how you enter a question matters as much as how well you solve it. Most candidates read everything in the order it appears; top scorers have a fixed entry routine per test type. Here's the playbook.

Read the question stem and glance at the four options before touching the passage. You'll read the passage anyway — but now it's a targeted search, not a leisurely tour. While reading, watch for quantifiers and hedges (many, some, may, always, only) — these words decide most answers. Then apply the one rule that outranks all others: the passage is the only universe. If an option needs outside knowledge to be true, it's wrong, no matter how obviously true it is in real life.

Fast-thinking habit: instead of asking "which option is right?", eliminate. Three of the four options contain an identifiable flaw — too strong, reversed, off-topic detail, or true-but-not-stated. Striking out flawed options (the interface has an elimination toggle for exactly this) is faster and more reliable than defending one candidate answer.
